What is tao about taocontact?
Tao is "the way" - the invisible way things are and go, the way things evolve following natural laws that underlie processes in the universe. What appeals most to me about the philosophy of tao is the central idea of a dynamic between opposites. It has something to do with language. Words cannot define anything without at the same time defining its opposite. However, it is also real: things come, and things go. I am looking to be real - with all of it. There is increditble beauty in resting with how things are. In a moment of silence, a seed may be born - or not.
Taoism deals primarily with the individual’s relationship to the world. Taoism’s contributions have been mostly scientific, artistic, and spiritual. From Taoism came Chinese science, medicine, gardening, landscape painting, and nature poetry. It’s key principles are natural simplicity, effortless action, spontaneity, and compassion. The most easily noticed difference between Confucianism and Taoism is emotional, a difference in feeling: Confucianism is stern, regimented, patriarchal, often severe; Taoism is happy, gentle, childlike, and serene -- like its favorite symbol, that of flowing water.” [Benjamin Hoff, The Te of Piglet, Penquin Books, Middlesex, England, 1993]
Taocontact seeks to align itself with the key ideas of taoism.
Taocontact is committed to:
* radical acceptance, to fully seeing without judgement what is so, because answers will follow
* peaceful problem solving using openess, negotiation, equality and intelligence
* focusing on solutions that arise naturally out of supportive circumstances
* tap into intuition using the unlimited capabilities of the brain (knowledge is limited)
*
taking right actions but not force outcomes nor attach to them
* naturalness, flow and simplicity
* being receptive to surprise and to the elusiveness of being
* following an individual and unique path because answers are found within
* the eternal tao (the tao that can be told is not the eternal tao)
* reality -> humility
* relativety and playfulness, because everything exists in relation to and contains its opposite |
