ABOUT THE CLASSES

For more information call Caroline at
757-259-0224

Please bring your yoga mat, blanket to sit on and eyebag if you want to use one. All classes begin with a quiet time, encouraging the student to become centered, quiet and peaceful by following the flow of the breath.
All traditional poses are taught during a session:

  • lying down on the back for hamstrings and low back, gentle back arches; such as cobra and locust.
  • Maintaining the integrity of the spinal column is most important, so forward bends and spine lengthening poses such as downward dog are often taught with bent knees, so the back maintains its length and does not round.
  • As we age, simple movements that involve joint mobility and balance become important to practice.
  • Correct movement of the shoulders is encouraged in many poses to help improve one's posture and increase lung capacity.
  • Standing poses strengthen the legs and improve balance and stamina.

Classes end with relaxation. Everyone is encouraged to go to their comfort zone during the poses and breathe.

CORRECT POSTURES

Classes reflect heavily on the Balance® technique
by Jean Couch. She has traveled for the last 10
years studying the daily habits of those people
who suffer little of no back pain. Natives of
Tahiti, Portugal, India and many more foreign
countries were observed. She studied how they
walk, sit, stand, bend and lie down in comparison
to the average American. Her easy to learn
techniques for improving posture, eliminating back
pain and improving stamina are included with the
yoga poses.
